“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” John 4:13-14 NIV
For the animal part of our nature, when we’re hungry we eat, but our hunger soon returns; when we’re thirsty we drink, but sooner or later we’re thirsty again; the sexual urge may be satiated, but in time the desire is back.
As a result we’re caught in this perpetual cycle of temporary satisfaction, followed by the sense of lack and longing for more.
But as human ‘beings’ we also have a spiritual part, that gifts us unlimited access to the unconditionally loving presence that radiates at the heart of all experience, that animates not only our human self but the entirety of this here now — most commonly known as God.
Recognising the reality of God’s glorious presence is often called ‘awakening’.
Why call it awakening?
Simply because if you’ve lived your whole life without any knowledge of this possibility, or had previously rejected it as just a fairytale, then, when you discover it for real, it’s as if you’d been living in a dream from which you have now awoken.
And this wondrous discovery is absolutely available to all.
What seems to prevent our clear seeing is being overly fixated on our rational mind — the web of concepts and beliefs that we take on to help us adapt to living and surviving in the world.
This doesn’t mean the rational mind and its concepts are wrong. They can offer a useful way of framing reality. But it’s possible to still include that useful framing whilst transcending beyond it to embrace our deeper spiritual nature.
To that aim I am offering a series of new events: ‘Awaken’.
Together we’ll be deconstructing the rational mind and exploring the power of first-person experience to reveal the simple, yet profound truth that is always already here.
Other lines of inquiry may include: what is the impact of this realisation? Does it naturally lead to personal transformation? How does it relate to the Circling and Surrendered Leadership practices?
The event will not have a formal structure, but will instead be conducted in the spirit of surrender to what emerges from within the group.
